Farm Beginnings(R)

Farm Beginnings® is geared towards anyone currently farming or interested in farming and ranching who wants to plan a profitable, sustainable farm and ranch business. Classes are led by experienced farmers, ranchers, and agricultural professionals. Hundreds of farmers have graduated from Farm Beginnings® programs, and they have a strong track record.  For example, 71 percent of graduates were still farming in 2016.

The 9 month program begins in December. Participants will create a farm business plan during 8 business development sessions over the fall and winter. The program continues into spring and summer with the development of an individualized learning plan for the upcoming growing season, facilitated farm tours, and hands on demonstration activities. Successful participants receive a certificate of completion.

Farm Beginnings® is nationally recognized by FSA as a qualifying borrower training program.

Topics include: Whole Farm Planning, Soil Health, Enterprise Budgeting, Record Keeping, FSA Services, Agriculture Marketing, Farm and Food Safety, Individualize Whole Farm Presentation
